The Imperial Valley resembles a cornucopia.
The Valley, created by taming the course of the Colorado River, bankrolls California at a rate of more than 1 billion dollars per year.
The largest irrigating canal in the world, the All-American Canal, has changed the features of the Valley by turning desert into productive areas such as agricultural fields and a lake fed by the Colorado River.
But the same source of all such opulence, contented by thirsty California, threatens now the surrounding areas. As in a plastic surgery that went wrong, the controversy literally drains the lake that starts to show its skeleton and the pesticides deposed at the bottom.
