SURPRISED AND CURIOUS ABOUT SEEING FASHION MODELS AT A SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE? WONDERING WHY THEY ARE HERE AND WHAT THEY ARE SHOWCASING?

Satellite imagery reveals the stunning beauty of our planet, but it takes expertise to unlock the deeper insights hidden in that data. These models’ outfits aim to give you a glimpse into that unseen value, turning Earth observation (EO) data into wearable stories. After all, everyone wears clothes, and everyone can connect with a story: could fashion be a new way to share EO insights beyond the EO community?

At the same time, the fashion industry is undergoing a transformation, grappling with its environmental impact and exploring more sustainable practices, from bio-based and recycled materials to low-energy production methods, smarter design, and circular manufacturing. Many of these innovations are still in the experimental phase.

The garments featured in this unique fashion performance are one such experiment. They reflect the evolving intersection of sustainability and style.

The looping video on the LPS screens — also viewable at the bottom of this page — invites you to explore how fashion can raise awareness about environmental and social issues. We hope to spark curiosity within the EO community about the innovations shaping the future of clothing.

These imaginative headpieces are inspired by the concept of perception through various perspectives and wavelengths—much like the vision of satellite sensors. Crafted from discarded and repurposed acetate lenses, each piece embodies a blend of innovation and sustainability.

This collection is a collaboration with the sustainable eyewear brand ARNO Eyewear. Their creations are contemporary, or even avant-garde, with a subtle retro flair. Take a closer look at their distinctive designs!
