A democratic endevour (US)

From ocean playground to wilderness experience

In 1620, the first Pilgrims sheltered in Provincetown Harbour where they signed the Mayflower Compact, the first democratic document signed in the New World, with all signatories promising obedience to the laws and ordinances drafted by the leaders of the enterprise.

Now Provincetown is an exuberant, unconventional, free home to artist communities and the Cape Cod peninsula is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the East Coast, with its magnificent natural and human landscapes.

After the Marine Mammals Protection Act (1972), oceanic democracy brought back a large population of (almost extinct) seals, and, with them, a number of more intimidating tourists, the great white sharks.
